Introduction

About our laboratory

@This laboratory was established in the same fiscal year as Tokyo Metropolitan Universityo. The name of the laboratory is "Materials Engineering Laboratory", which conducts research on materials used in aircraft, rockets, satellites, etc.

@Various materials are used for aerospace equipment. For example, light weight and high strength materials such as aluminum alloys and composite materials are used for the airframe, and heat-resistant and corrosion-resistant materials such as superalloy and titanium alloy are used for the engine. In this way, the presence of excellent materials is indispensable for improving the performance of aerospace equipment. In this laboratory, we are developing high performance materials mainly light weight metal materials such as aluminum, titanium, magnesium. For detailed research content, please see this page .

@The number of students in 2019 is 12, 5 undergraduates, 7 master studends. Each student has an independent research theme and works on preparing graduation thesis and master's thesis. Students will discuss the research content with the supervising professor at seminars held once a week, and in turn, by reading English papers related to their research fields, acquire expert knowledge and improve their English proficiency I will aim for. Furthermore, by presenting the research at the Japan Metallic Society or the Light Metal Society held twice a year, we will train important presentation abilities as a society.

@In this laboratory, we are conducting joint research with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency Space Research Institute on a continuous basis. As a collaborative research project with JAXA, we are also developing the Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM)
.
